According to the BIM barometer conducted by the Infopro Digital Research Institute for Mezzoteam, the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling) has become essential for construction industry professionals: 73% of respondents have already adopted it in their projects. This adoption is widespread across all types of companies (63% of companies with fewer than 50 employees have already worked with BIM) and for projects of all sizes.
However, while BIM is used by 71% of respondents during the design phase, its use in operations remains in its infancy. Only 16% of respondents report using it during the operational phase, and 14% during the maintenance phase. Nevertheless, compatibility with connected objects is seen as a key future requirement, highlighting the importance of integrating digital technologies from the very beginning of a construction or renovation project.
The barometer also shows that there is still sometimes confusion between BIM and simple 3D modeling.
Although visualization is an important component, the true potential of BIM lies in its ability to manage data and structure processes. The information, which constitutes the "I" in BIM, is often underestimated.
BIM is seen as an asset for staying competitive
62% of professionals believe that its adoption is essential to remain competitive and view BIM as a genuine performance tool. According to the barometer, purchasing decisions regarding BIM are often made by executive management to support their strategy. However, BIM suffers from a lack of training, with only 50% of respondents trained in its use.
Finally, at a time when digital solutions in construction are multiplying, the barometer highlights the need for a single repository capable of centralizing data and ensuring compatibility with other systems to optimize project management.
